Columbus, OH – We are pleased to announce the 29th Annual UNCF Walk/Run for Education which will take place on September 29, 2012 from 7:45-12 noon at Wolfe Park on Columbus’s historic near east side.
The event was originally developed to engage the Columbus community in raising money for UNCF to support not only its 38 member historically black colleges and universities, (HBCU’s) but the over 1,200 students attending college on a UNCF scholarship from Columbus, Ohio. UNCF is a beacon of hope to those young people who need assistance financing their higher education goals and currently has scholars earning their degrees at not only HBCU’s but also The Ohio State University, Miami University, Kentucky State University and Xavier University to name a few.
The event traditionally hosts over 850 participants who all share one common goal, to connect deserving young people to higher education. This year we will continue on our new path through Columbus’ historic King Lincoln District, also known as Bronzeville. The hub of art and entertainment for African American’s in the 1920’s the King Lincoln District is making an incredible comeback and UNCF would like to celebrate and support this effort. The 5k Walk/Run will begin at Wolfe Park and loop through the King Lincoln District before ending back at Wolfe Park. We highly encourage runners to join us and share in our mission.
Those interested in participating are encouraged to make a meaningful donation and can register individually or join a walk team. For more information please contact the Columbus UNCF office at (614) 221-5309.
